Bill Hunt Obituary

It was with sadness that we learnt, in late 2013, of the passing of Life Member, Wyvern (Bill) Hunt.

Bill was one of the founders of our club and both his sons Tony and Dennis have been members since they were old enough to hold a bat. We extend our condolences to Tony, Anne and Dennis.

It wasn’t long ago that Bill presented the Caps to the New Zealand team on the eve of the Basin Test. At that time he had seen every test played at the Basin.

Bill served his country and community well over a huge period. He had his own company in Wellington (Wyvern Hunt and Co) and during the Second World War he saw service in both the Pacific and was also in the final push into Italy.

Recently the Hunt Family Cup was presented by Sir Pat Goodman (Bill was Pat’s first boss) to mark the tremendous contribution of Bill and his family to Wanderers.

Bill was a dedicated family man and followed his sons’ cricket careers through college (Wanganui Collegiate) and then Karori CC. He was also an avid follower of club cricket in Wellington (Karori) and also followed the Wellington Cricket team very closely, as well as trips to Athletic Park and latterly Westpac Stadium in the winter months.
