Brian “Stretch,” a respected figure in Wellington cricket, leads the Wanderers’ growing over 50s cricket initiative. Wanderers CC Cello Basin Reserve Invitational Tri Series 2024
The weather was perfect, the Cello Basin a picture, and the cricket of a high standard. The spirit of cricket was in evidence long into the night as all three teams celebrated the end of a great season of Kindred cricket. The event was superbly run by Ben Castle and Willie Marshall, and we thank Kent Currie (Seddon) and Dave Clouston (UCVC) for their efforts in corralling two great touring parties. And a huge thanks to Ashan Wanasinghe for capturing the day in images for us.

The Wanderers pulled together a Wanderers Women’s XI and a Wanderer’s Schoolgirls XI yesterday to play in two matches against the Te-Whanganui-a-Tara Māori Wahine and the Te-Whanganui-a-Tara Schoolgirls XI at the first ever Wellington Maori Cricket festival.

What a season it's been for our Wanderers Young Cricketers! As we wrap up our second year of running this Programme we want to say a big thank you. It was amazing because of everyone involved. This whole programme is about giving young players from schools all over Wellington a chance to access top quality coaching and mentorship, especially to those who might not usually get the support and opportunities from the more well resourced schools.

In an exhilarating day of cricket, the Wellington Wanderers faced off against Hutt Valley High School in two closely contested matches. The Wanderers School Girls XI showcased their skills and team cohesion, securing a win against the Hutt Valley High School 1st XI Women under challenging overcast conditions. Meanwhile, the Wanderers XI celebrated a nostalgic reunion and a hard-fought victory against the Hutt Valley High School 1st XI Boys, where former players returned to the pitch to display their enduring cricket prowess. Both games not only highlighted the competitive spirit but also the camaraderie and mutual respect between the teams
