Wellington Wanderers Cricket Club Welcomes New Committee Members for the Upcoming Season

We are pleased to announce several exciting additions to the Wellington Wanderers Cricket Club committee, each bringing their unique expertise and passion for the game to help us continue growing and supporting our players. Dhrti Girish and Brian Steele are joining as new committee members for the upcoming season: and Liz Green is stepping away. Each brings valuable experience and passion to the club, helping us continue to grow and support our diverse community of players.

Dhrti Girish

A current Wellington U19s and Women’s representative, Dhrti has been deeply involved in youth cricket development. She played a pivotal role in implementing the young leaders in cricket program, which has since been adopted by Cricket Wellington and NZC. Dhrti also led a successful Wanderers Women’s team tour to the Basin Reserve earlier this year and will be overseeing cricket operations for both the men’s and women’s youth sectors. Her leadership and experience will be invaluable as we continue to nurture the next generation of cricketers at the club.

Brian ‘Stretch’ Steele

A highly respected figure in Wellington’s cricket community, Stretch has been involved in youth cricket for many years, having chaired the Wellington Collegians junior club. Under his guidance, the club’s player numbers surged to over 300 across multiple teams. Stretch is currently leading the over 50s cricket initiative for the Wanderers, an area that has seen significant growth in both participation and enthusiasm. His strong organisational skills and dedication to the game make him a perfect fit for our committee.

Farewell and Thanks to Liz Green

As we welcome our new committee members, we also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Liz Green, who is stepping down after several years of invaluable service. Liz has been instrumental within the Wanderers and was a driving force behind the development of our Cricket Wellington partnership particularly with Cam Mitchell, past CEO of Cricket Wellington. Liz said:

“I have really enjoyed watching the club grow and the impact it is having on cricket in the Wellington region. There was always something special about the discussions in the early days regarding evolving the partnership between CW and WWCC, and it is great to see the vision come to life bigger and better than Cam and I probably ever thought possible.”

We wish Liz all the best in her future endeavours and thank her for her outstanding contributions to the Wanderers.

We are incredibly excited to welcome Dhrti and Brian to the committee, and we look forward to the positive impact they will have on our club. Their contributions will help us continue to build a vibrant and inclusive cricketing community for all players, of all ages.
