Wanderers Young Cricketers Programme

Welcome to the Wanderers Young Cricketers Programme – a dedicated initiative committed to nurturing young cricket talent across Wellington.

Our programme offers boys and girls from Year 8 to Year 13 the opportunity to receive top-quality coaching from some of the region’s best coaches and players.

Designed especially for cricketers from under-resourced schools, and players below the top grades, we aim to provide access to the same high-level training and support found in well-established cricket schools.

How the programme works

The programme offers boys and girls from Year 8 to Year 13 access to quality coaching from some of the region’s best players and coaches, providing them with opportunities that may not be available in their own schools.

This initiative is aimed at cricketers from schools that don’t typically compete at top levels or have access to premier facilities.

With 12-15 hours of coaching across six clinics throughout the year, participants receive tailored guidance and mentorship to help them develop their skills.

2024-25 Programme

This season, the Wanderers Young Cricketers Programme proudly welcomes players from a broad range of schools across the Wellington region, showcasing our commitment to developing cricketing talent from all backgrounds. Participants come from both secondary and intermediate levels, reflecting the programme’s inclusivity and dedication to providing top-quality coaching for all young cricketers.

Our Junior Programme specifically supports young boys making the transition from junior club cricket to college cricket, a critical stage where participation often drops off. By offering more opportunities at this important phase, we aim to keep young players engaged and excited about their cricket journey.

A massive thanks to Kilbirnie Sports for sponsoring our Wanderers Young Cricketers Programme.

They have provided the club with a first class practice kit chocka full of training equipment and balls to help us run the WCC Young Cricketers Coaching Clinics this season. Thanks to Scott Lindsay and his team for their incredible generosity.
