Wanderers Girls XI v Willows CC Secondary School Girls Selection XI.
On Tuesday 5 December the Wanderers Girls XI, with representation from nine Wellington schools, travelled to North Canterbury to play the first ever game V The Willows CC Secondary School Girls Selection XI.
Our young tourists were blown away walking through the gates seeing the picturesque Willows and having the opportunity to play on such a beautiful private ground. Before play we were welcomed by Willows Chairman Paul Rutledge, and shared lunch with our friendly opposition. WWCC captain Neha Ramanathan won the toss and put the Willows in to bat. The Willows scored 212 off their 40 overs, with Niamh McKenzie scoring a well-crafted 79. Jessica Robinson was the pick of the Wanderers bowlers with 3-19.
In reply we lost wickets at regular intervals against a solid attack, so were always in catch up mode. The Willows girls took their catches along the way and Edi Mason ended up with figures of 4-9. Nell Laracy McCrystal, Bree James, and Neha Ramanathan all scored 20s, but we fell short in the end.
The experience though was something to savior, thank you sincerely to the Dormer family - Winsome and Ben, Paul Rutledge, Kirsty Bond and and everyone who were involved in hosting the WWCC girls, including our own Jazz Bailey and Becs Newell for their organisation to make this possible. We look forward to the return fixture in April where we host the The Willows Cricket Club girls at the Cello Basin Reserve .
