Wanderers Young Cricketers Thrive in Kinship and Competition at Hawkes Bay Tournament

Over the course of an action-packed week in Hawkes Bay, the Wanderers WWCC youth team experienced a rollercoaster of emotions, thrilling finishes, and valuable lessons in cricket kinship. The tournament tested their mettle, showcased their skills, and strengthened their bonds as teammates and friends.

Opening Day Drama

The tournament kicked off with an intense match against Taranaki Colts. The Wanderers, batting first on a challenging pitch, posted a respectable 156 for 8, thanks to Jonty Beattie's resilient 52. The match went down to the wire, with Taranaki securing a narrow win in a nail-biting finish. Jethro Elliott's fiery bowling and James Parker’s 3-17 were highlights, demonstrating the team's capability to fight till the last ball.

Marshall Family Cup Clash

Day two saw the Wanderers face Seddon CC, with more than just victory at stake as the Marshall Family Cup was on the line. Despite a gallant fielding display and a promising innings from Jonty Beattie and Hunter Lithgow, the Wanderers fell short by 25 runs. The match was a testament to the team’s spirit and camaraderie, leaving them eager for a rematch.

Battling the Heat Against Parnell

The third day's encounter with Parnell Cricket was another scorcher, both in terms of weather and competition. Opting to bat first, the Wanderers set a target of 153, anchored by a vital partnership between James Parker and Hunter Lithgow. Despite a spirited bowling effort, Parnell reached the target with seven wickets down, marking another close contest for the Wanderers.

T20 Doubleheader Finale
